The deadly Corona Virus, now christened as COVID-19 by the WHO, has created a worldwide scare with its moderately long incubation period, high contagiously and steep epidemic curve, added with the exponential mortality rate within 2-3 weeks of reaching a population. Health authorities of many countries have been caught napping when the virus hit their shores.
India, once again, has done a highly commendable job of managing the spread of the disease, as well as panic, within its boundaries with swift and extensive measures.
Amidst all the advisories coming out of all the health authorities of the world (CDC/ WHO/ MoH GoI), the one that has been emphasized most is the advice to keep the hands clean by washing with soap and water or by using a hand sanitizer. A byproduct of this emphasis has been the shortage of hand sanitizer from the retail market or it's being sold at exorbitant prices.
Members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Rama University, have formulated a hand sanitizing product using a formula that combines the desired kill-rate of alcohol with the skin protecting properties of aloe vera, the wonder-drug for skincare. The highlight of this effort is that the sanitizer was prepared using ingredients available on the Rama University Campus itself.
People who used this sanitizer were pleasantly surprised by its texture and fragrance along with the cool sensation it produces on the skin when rubbed on the hands.
This hand sanitizer is being distributed free to all the employees and resident students of the University. Dispensers have been placed at various points which can act as potential fomites. It is being offered to all the patients visiting the Rama Hospital free of cost
Rama Group is trying to do its part in serving the nation in this hour of crisis with the efforts of the members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
