Report: ALIMCO VISIT REPORT-2022

Faculty of paramedical sciences, Rama University, Kanpur, under the guidance of our Principal Dr. Brijendra Nigam, organized a one-day field visit to the esteemed institution ALIMCO situated at Mandhana, Kanpur for the students in the 4th year of Bachelors of Physiotherapy. A total of 36 students visited the ALIMCO campus on 25th June 2022 accompanied by the teaching faculty of the department Dr. Manjeet Kumar and Dr. Apoorva Srivastava. The students were explained in detail about the working, infrastructure, benefits, and various schemes running by the government for the betterment of differently-abled people through ALIMCO. They were taken to visit the Orthotics and Prosthetics manufacturing laboratories and were explained about the advancements made by ALIMCO towards providing PWDs a barrier-free environment.
Students were explained the procedure of prescribing Prosthesis and Orthosis to patients who are differently abled and also were given insights on how training an individual is an important aspect of prescribing them. Students visited the Orthotics and Prosthesis manufacturing unit where they were taught about the different types of orthosis and prosthesis made, the usage of different types of orthosis & prosthesis, and what are the precautions and contraindications one needs to take into consideration while prescribing any orthosis or prosthesis to the patients. They were also given insight in to what are the particular aspects of training such individuals with orthosis and prosthesis after prescribing them aids according to their abilities and disabilities.
They were also taken to the formulation section where they were shown the various instruments required to align an orthosis according to the patient’s needs. They were also exposed to real patient training being carried out in the institution. Finally, they were explained in detail about the various centers of ALIMCO present throughout the country and the referral procedure of patients from various esteemed institutions from all over the country. They were shown the various mobility aids frequently administered to patients and the policies of the government towards providing patients with such facilities even to those incapable of affording them. Overall the students had a great exposure to the working procedure of a Governmental institution, working with people with disabilities, and recognized the importance of the involvement of a complete Rehabilitation team in the rehabilitation of patients.
