Skype Lecture on Polymeric Microneedle for Transdermal Drug Delivery System
14 Sep 2019
The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering & Technology/ Faculty of Sciences, RAMA University, Kanpur has organized a Skype lecture on “Polymeric Microneedle for Transdermal Drug Delivery System” by Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Ashfaq , University of La Serena, Chile, South America on 6th September, 2019 in Seminar Hall, FET at 9:30 AM.
The lecture series was informative and thought provoking both for faculty members and students. Dr. Ashfaq began by explaining the differences between transdermal drug delivery, oral drug delivery and controlled drug delivery. He introduced the student with concept of microneedle with its ability to deliver drug directly into the muscles by passing several layers of skin. According to him, this was a painless method of drug delivery. He used gelatin polymer for fabrication of microneedle and highlighted that the drug release profile from microneedle can be by varying cross-linking degree. Further, he also highlighted the need of biological characterization of polymeric microneedle by measuring hemolysis of red blood cells. He concluded his series by describing its futuristic application and a question and answer session for faculty and student alike.
