About t he Course -

The Oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the ten most common cancers worldwide. Despite therapeutic advances, survival rates for patients with oral SCC remain at approximately 50% and have not improved over several decades.

Persistent failure to diagnose and treat oral cancer at an early stage is a key factor limiting advances in outcome. Because the oral cavity is easy to examine and risk factors for oral cancer are known, there is great opportunity to improve patient outcomes through diagnosis and treatment of premalignant lesions before the development of invasive oral carcinoma.

Improving detection, diagnosis, and treatment of precancerous changes and early asymptomatic cancers is imperative to increase survival and improve functional outcomes for persons at risk to develop oral cancer.

This course thus will benefit the undergradauates postgraduates and dental clinicians in the field of technological and therapeutic advances are much needed to improve the poor outcomes associated with oral cancer due to our inability to diagnose and treat this disease at an early, curable stage.

Course Curriculum

Day 1:

· Introduction of various oral mucosal premalignant lesio and conditions affecting oral cavity

• How to diagnose various oral premalignant lesions

· How to differentiate the oral premalignant lesions from one another

· Comprehensive teaching on clinical diagnostic approach of various premalignat lesions and conditions

Day 2:

· A comprehensive introduction of various methods of diagnosing oral premalignant lesions and conditions

· Describing in detail about various chair side investigations

· A detailed lecture/video presentation on how to perform various biopsies

• Detailed lecture and video demonstration of how to demonstrate FNAC,Brush biposy, Vizilite

Day 3:

· Introductions to various treatment modalities for treating oral premalignat lesion and conditions

· A medicinal approach to treat various oral premalignat lesion and conditions

· Practical approach on using various medicines in clinical practice for treatment of oral premalignant lesion and conditions

Day 4:

· A full day program on hands on various biopsies to be performed on patients

· Detailed procedure explanation, hands on, biopsy procedure, suture and post operative care all will be explained and performed

Day 5:

· Detailed case history recording of oral premalignat lesion and conditions patients

· Treatment oriented approach, with writing prescription, explaining the dosages and their effects on the lesion/condition.

This course will definitely upgrade the knowledge of the UG/PG/Inters and dental practitioners towards how to diagnose , perform biopsies, and what medicines need to be prescribed to the patients with oral premalignant lesion and conditions
