The visit was conducted as an educational activity for 2nd Year ANM students with the objective of enhancing their understanding of pediatric rehabilitation, developmental disorders, and interdisciplinary healthcare practices. The program aimed to provide experiential learning and strengthen clinical competencies in child health nursing.
The venue for the educational visit was Sparkle Child Therapy Center, a specialized rehabilitation center dedicated to supporting children with developmental and behavioral challenges. The event was organized by the Department of Child Health Nursing under the Faculty of Nursing. The visit was carefully planned to align with the academic curriculum and practical training requirements of ANM students.
The students were accompanied by Mrs. Veena Sharma and Ms. Srishti Baghel, Faculty of Nursing, who supervised and guided them throughout the visit. The session commenced with a cordial welcome by Dr. Shivangi Awasthi, Psychologist and Development Educator at the center. She provided a detailed orientation about the center’s mission, vision and the range of therapeutic services offered. She emphasized the importance of early detection, timely intervention and structured rehabilitation for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, speech and language delays, behavioral issues, and motor impairments.
During the guided tour, the students were introduced to various therapy units including Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Sensory Integration services. The therapists demonstrated specialized equipment and assistive technologies used to enhance children’s motor coordination, sensory processing, communication skills and cognitive development. Students gained insight into individualized therapy planning and the systematic assessment process used to design targeted interventions based on each child’s needs.
A significant highlight of the visit was the live observation of therapy sessions. The 2nd Year ANM students observed rehabilitation strategies implemented for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, speech delay, and cerebral palsy. The sessions showcased goal-oriented therapy, behavior modification techniques, sensory stimulation methods and the active involvement of parents in the therapeutic process. The coordinated efforts of multidisciplinary professionals clearly reflected a holistic and child-centered approach to care.
The visit concluded with an interactive discussion and feedback session. Students expressed that the exposure helped them better understand the nursing role in pediatric rehabilitation settings, particularly in areas such as early screening, parental counseling, developmental monitoring, and referral services. The faculty members reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and compassionate care in improving child health outcomes.
Overall the Academic Enrichment Visit proved to be highly informative, educational and professionally enriching for the 2nd Year ANM students. It successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thereby enhancing their confidence and competencies in pediatric and developmental nursing care.
