Continuing nursing education is crucial for nurses to stay updated on advancements in healthcare, improve skills, and meet state licensing requirements. It leads to better patient care, enhances professional growth through career advancement and higher job satisfaction, and is often a mandatory part of relicensure.
The Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, proudly organized an International Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) on the theme “Heartelligence in Nursing” on 17th October 2025. The event was a remarkable initiative aimed at nurturing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, resilience, and human values among nursing professionals’ skills that form the very heart of compassionate and holistic nursing care. The program sought to blend scientific knowledge with emotional wisdom, empowering nurses to deliver care with empathy, integrity, and mindfulness.
The grand event was graced by distinguished dignitaries of Rama University, including Dr. Indrajith Gupta, Dean Academics, Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal and Dean, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Lt.Col.Dr.Siddartha Mani, CMO, Rama hospital & Research centre, Dr.Aparna Shukla,Trainer, Irish nurses and midwives organisation, Ireland, Prof.Yadidya, Associate Professor, SGPGI, Lucknow, and Prof.Girija Sharma, LPS cardiology, Kanpur, Dr.Aneeta Yadav, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and allied health Industries, Dr.Sujatha, Dean, Faculty of Medical sciences and Dr.Guru prasad, Dean, Faculty of Ayurveda. All the respected deans from various faculties of the university also joined the occasion. The program witnessed an overwhelming participation of 341 delegates from nursing colleges and healthcare institutions across Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions, reflecting its international reach and academic excellence.
The CNE commenced with the registration and pre-test, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal, Faculty of Nursing. The formal inauguration and lamp lighting ceremony illuminated the venue with the spirit of learning and enlightenment. The soulful rendition of Ganesh Vandana added a divine beginning to the day’s proceedings. The Guest, Dr. Indrajith Gupta, Dean Academics, Rama University, Dr.Jasmi Johnson. Principal Faculty of Nursing, Rama University in their inaugural address, emphasized the growing importance of emotional intelligence and empathy in nursing leadership and appreciated the Faculty of Nursing for hosting a program of such global relevance.
The scientific sessions of the day were intellectually rich and deeply inspiring. The first session on “The Importance of Soft Skills in Nursing” was delivered by Mr. Anmol Sharma, who emphasized the role of communication, empathy, and teamwork in patient care. The second session by Dr. Rimple Sharma, Principal, College of Nursing, AIIMS Jammu, focused on “Core Human Values in Nursing Practice”, highlighting compassion, honesty, and ethical conduct as essential traits of professional nurses. The third session, “Holistic Nursing Care: Addressing Physical and Emotional Needs,” presented by Mr. Yadidya, HOD of Community Health Nursing, SGPGI Lucknow, stressed on integrating physical and emotional well-being in patient care.
The afternoon sessions continued with great enthusiasm. Dr. Aparna Shukla, International Trainer from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization, Ireland, enlightened the participants on “Personality Development for Nursing Professionals”, focusing on self-growth, confidence, and professionalism. This was followed by Prof. Girija Sharma, College of Nursing, LPS Cardiology, Kanpur, who spoke on “Understanding Emotional Intelligence and Empathy in Patient Care”, emphasizing the heart-mind balance required in clinical settings. Prof. Syed Sumiya, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, conducted a reflective session on “Developing Self-awareness and Resilience in Nursing”, guiding participants through techniques for mindfulness, stress management, and emotional stability. The final session of the day, “The Role of Heartelligence in Ongoing Nursing Education”, was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal, Faculty of Nursing, who beautifully connected the theme with lifelong learning and professional growth in nursing education.
The CNE is awarded with 2 credit points by UPSMF, Lucknow. The event concluded with a Valedictory Session, vote of thanks by Prof. Aslam Abbas, HOD, Community Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University. A post-test was conducted to evaluate the knowledge gained by participants, followed by an eloquent vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the university management, eminent speakers, organizing committee, and all the delegates for making the event a grand success.
The International CNE on “Heartelligence in Nursing” proved to be a landmark program that inspired nurses to blend emotional intelligence with clinical competence. The sessions enriched the participants with practical insights and reflective learning, fostering a deeper understanding of the art of caring with compassion. The overwhelming response, active participation, and positive feedback reflected the event’s success and its lasting impact on professional development. This CNE not only strengthened the academic vision of the Faculty of Nursing but also reaffirmed Rama University’s commitment to advancing excellence, empathy, and innovation in nursing education.
