About the course:
The relationship between environment and health and illness is a growing concern in the community. This needs segregation of biomedical waste and treats each of the categories appropriately and effectively, to render the biomedical waste harmless. This certificate program has been developed to create essential knowledge and skills in health care waste management. After pursuing this course students will be equipped with the latest knowledge regarding management of health care waste based on WHO guidelines with special reference to BMWM Rules, 2016 and BMWM (amendment) Rules 2018, Govt. of India.
Medical colleges, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Clinics are a generator of biomedical waste and need personnel to manage its disposal. Various inspecting authorities, disposal units need personals who are trained in these affairs. This course addresses their requirements.
DURATION: Total 3 Month, 2 Lecture per week for 2 months and field and project-based internship in hospital and disposal units for one month (3 hrs./day)

INSTRUCTORS: Faculty of Paramedical Sciences and specialists in waste management.
ELIGIBILITY: 10+2 or equivalent. Indian citizens residing in India
COURSEWARE: Course material is provided in printed / electronic form.
MODE: Classroom and field training.
EVALUATION SYSTEM: Based on project report and classroom teaching along with Viva in finals

COURSE CONTENT
- Inter-relationship between Health and Environment: The relationship between environment and health impact, impending need to segregate waste and treat each of the categories appropriately and effectively, to render the waste harmless.
- Worker Safety and Patient Safety: The risk to the patient and the worker in the health care settings, both at the level of health care facilities or the central treatment and disposal facilities.
- Current Status of Health Care Waste Management and Legislation in the Regional Countries. The evolving or existing regulatory mechanisms in the countries overview of the health care waste management system in the countries of southeast Asia Region
- Administrative and Legal Aspects of Waste Management: Project Work
- There will be theory classes in the Paramedical Institute besides the practical training and field visit to facility be imparted to the leaners.
- Primary computer knowledge shall also be given.
