Charak Jayanti Celebration 2025 at RAMC: Honoring the Father of Indian Medicine

To commemorate Charak Janyanti, Rama Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital, Mandhana, Kanpur, hosted a vibrant Reel Making Competition, offering students an opportunity to honor Acharya Charak—the father of Indian medicine—and explore the Charak Samhita, a cornerstone of Ayurvedic knowledge.
This innovative initiative aimed to bridge classical Ayurveda with contemporary expression by encouraging students to create reels that reflect their academic insights and artistic creativity. The themes given for the competition were:
- The History of Acharya Charak
- The Essence of the Charak Samhita
- If Charak Were Alive Today
The submission deadline was set for 28th July 2025 (4:00 PM), and the response was overwhelming, with students showcasing remarkable depth of knowledge and imaginative presentation.
Event Day Highlights – 29th July 2025:
The event commenced on a spiritually uplifting note, with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Guruprasad K., Principal and Head of the Department of Swasthvritta & Yoga, Dr. Soni Verma Vice Principal Head of the Department of Samhita & Siddhant & Dr. Amarendra Pratap Singh D.M.S. His inaugural address emphasized the timeless relevance of Ayurveda and the visionary contributions of Acharya Charak. This was followed by soulful shloka pathan by students: Ms. Anchal, Ms. Kashish, Ms. Priya, Mr. Sanidhya, Mr. Anuj Kumar, and Mr. Neelesh, setting a reverent tone for the program.
The event was successfully conducted under the valuable guidance and coordination of:
- Dr. Soni Verma – Professor, Department of Samhita & Siddhant
- Dr. Udhaya Shankar T. – Associate Professor, Department of Agad Tantra
- Dr. Rosy Chauhan – Associate Professor, Department of Panchakarma
A major highlight of the celebration was a guest lecture by Dr. S. Swaminathan, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at SCSVMV, and Professor & HOD, Department of Ayurveda Samhita & Siddhant, SJSACH, Chennai.
His talk on “The Importance of Charak Samhita” was deeply enriching. He offered insights into the text's historical origins, its philosophical underpinnings, and its applicability in modern clinical settings, leaving the audience inspired and intellectually invigorated. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Guruprasad K., who acknowledged the collaborative efforts of faculty, students, and staff in making the celebration a success.
