Digital literacy has become a cornerstone of modern academia, shaping how educators teach, researchers collaborate, and students learn. This event explores the evolving role of digital literacy within the academic industry, addressing the skills, tools, and strategies necessary for success in a digitally driven educational environment.
Day 2 of the Faculty Development Program (FDP) 2025 at Rama University, Kanpur, commenced with a renewed spirit of academic engagement and professional growth. The day’s focus was on the vital theme: “Digital Literacy in the Academic Industry,” reflecting the urgent need for digital competence across all sectors of higher education and healthcare.
The session began with a warm and insightful welcome address delivered by Prof. Vipin A, Head of Department, Child Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University. Prof. Vipin emphasized the transformative role of digital literacy in modern academia, particularly within the health education sector. In his address, he also highlighted the objectives of the ongoing FDP, which include enhancing faculty competencies, fostering a research-oriented mindset, and bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application—especially in the context of emerging digital technologies.
A formal and respectful introduction of the keynote speaker for the day was delivered by Prof. Dr. Minu S. R, Vice-Principal, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University. Dr. Minu acknowledged the extensive academic and administrative contributions of the day’s speaker, emphasizing his experience in both technological and academic leadership.
The keynote session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Indrajeet Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology and Dean of Academic Affairs & Planning, Rama University. His presentation, titled “Digital Literacy in the Academic Industry,” was an in-depth exploration of the intersection between technology and education, specifically within the framework of academic institutions.
Dr. Gupta emphasized the evolving scope of digital literacy, highlighting that it goes beyond basic computer skills to include critical competencies such as evaluating information, ensuring data security, and communicating effectively in digital spaces. He explored the impact of digital transformation in academia, noting how technology is reshaping curriculum design, teaching methods, student assessments, and research practices.
He also addressed important ethical and legal considerations, including responsible digital content creation, issues like plagiarism and copyright, and the ethical use of AI tools in academic settings. Cyber security awareness was stressed as vital, especially in healthcare education, where protecting sensitive data is critical. Finally, Dr. Gupta shed light on the need to bridge the digital divide, advocating for inclusive strategies to ensure equal access to digital tools and resources for all faculty and students.
Dr. Gupta further stressed that digital literacy is not merely a skill set but a mindset—one that must be embraced by educators, administrators, and students alike in order to remain relevant and effective in today’s educational and clinical settings. Following the lecture, the session transitioned into an interactive discussion, where participants engaged actively with the speaker and among themselves.
Day 2 of the FDP 2025 served as a powerful reminder that the future of academia is inseparably linked to digital advancement. Through insightful discussions and expert knowledge-sharing, participants gained a clearer understanding of how digital literacy can enhance teaching, streamline research, and ultimately improve healthcare delivery through well-informed academic practices.
The sessions of the day successfully met the FDP’s core objectives—empowering faculty with contemporary digital skills and fostering a future-ready educational environment at Rama University.
The Faculty of Nursing expresses sincere gratitude to the guest speaker, coordinators, and all participants for their active engagement and contributions to the success of Day 2. The event’s smooth coordination and insightful discourse set a strong precedent for the upcoming sessions of the FDP.
