The second day of the Five-Day Faculty Development Programme organized by Rama College of Nursing, Rama University was conducted successfully with active participation from nursing faculty members, academicians, researchers, and students. The sessions of the day focused on consultancy and entrepreneurship in nursing, effective communication and soft skills, and innovative teaching pedagogies in nursing education. The programme provided participants with valuable knowledge regarding professional development, academic leadership, and innovative educational approaches in nursing education.
The programme commenced with the inauguration and introduction of the first resource person by Mrs. K. Jyothisree, HOD, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Rama College of Nursing. She welcomed all the nursing professionals capable of meeting modern healthcare challenges.
The first keynote session was delivered by Dr. B. Vanaja Kumari, Principal, Narayana College of Nursing, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, on the topic “Consultancy & Entrepreneurship in Nursing.”
During her session, speaker discussed the growing opportunities for consultancy and entrepreneurship in the field of nursing and healthcare. She explained that nursing professionals possess valuable clinical knowledge, leadership abilities, and communication skills that can contribute significantly to healthcare consultancy, healthcare management, patient education, wellness services, and training programmes.The speaker elaborated on various entrepreneurial opportunities available for nurses, including nursing consultancy services, home healthcare agencies, wellness clinics, rehabilitation centers, simulation training centers, healthcare startups, and educational consultancy. She highlighted the importance of innovation, leadership, strategic planning, and financial management for becoming successful nurse entrepreneurs.
Dr. Vanaja Kumari further encouraged participants to develop entrepreneurial thinking and utilize their professional expertise for creating innovative healthcare services that can improve patient care and community health outcomes. She also discussed the importance of ethical practice, quality assurance, and evidence-based healthcare services in nursing entrepreneurship. The session motivated participants to explore leadership and entrepreneurial roles beyond traditional nursing practice.
The second keynote session was delivered by Dr. Sarika Saxena, Professor cum Vice Principal, College of Nursing, GIMS, Greater Noida, on the topic “Effective Communication & Soft Skills for Nurse Educators.” She emphasized the importance of effective communication and soft skills in nursing education and professional practice. She explained that communication skills play a crucial role in teaching-learning processes, student mentorship, teamwork, patient care, and professional relationships. She highlighted that nurse educators should possess strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, emotional intelligence, and professional ethics to effectively guide and motivate students.
The speaker discussed various communication techniques essential for effective classroom teaching and clinical supervision, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, empathy, counseling skills, and conflict management. She also explained the importance of soft skills such as time management, teamwork, leadership, decision-making, stress management, and professional behavior in improving educational effectiveness and workplace relationships.
Dr. Sarika Saxena further encouraged participants to develop confidence, positive attitude, and professional communication skills to become successful educators and healthcare professionals. The session was highly interactive, and participants actively participated in discussions related to communication barriers, student engagement, and professional behavior in educational and clinical settings.
The third keynote session was conducted by Dr. Omprakash Swami, Associate Professor, Mahatma Gandhi Nursing College, Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology, Jaipur, on the topic “Innovative Teaching Pedagogies in Nursing Education.” During his session, Dr. Omprakash Swami discussed various innovative teaching-learning strategies that can improve nursing education and student learning outcomes. He emphasized that traditional lecture methods should be integrated with student-centered and technology-enabled teaching approaches to promote active learning, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning among nursing students.
The speaker elaborated on innovative pedagogical methods such as simulation-based learning, case-based learning, problem-based learning, flipped classroom methods, role play, concept mapping, digital learning modules, and interactive classroom activities. He highlighted that innovative teaching strategies can enhance student participation, motivation, skill development, and academic performance.
He also explained the importance of competency-based education and outcome-oriented teaching approaches in nursing education. He encouraged faculty members to adopt reflective teaching practices, continuous assessment methods, and evidence-based educational strategies for improving the quality of nursing education and preparing competent healthcare professionals.The session provided valuable academic insights and motivated participants to adopt innovative teaching methodologies in their classroom and clinical teaching practices. Participants actively interacted with the speaker and clarified their doubts regarding innovative educational technologies and teaching-learning strategies.
The second day of the FDP concluded with participant interaction, feedback, and appreciation to all the keynote speakers for their informative and inspiring sessions. The sessions greatly enhanced the participants’ knowledge regarding entrepreneurship, communication skills, and innovative teaching practices in nursing education.
