INTRODUCTION:
A crash cart's importance lies in providing immediate, organized access to life-saving equipment and medications during medical emergencies, enabling rapid responses and improving patient outcomes. By consolidating essential tools for cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and other critical situations in one mobile unit, crash carts ensure that healthcare teams can act quickly, reduce response times, and deliver timely, high-quality care when every second counts. The Medical Surgical Nursing department from the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, organized an Expert Lecture on “A Unified Nursing Approach: Crash Cart Mastery and Critical Care Continuum” on 26th September 2025. The Main aim of the programme was to enrich the knowledge and skills of nursing students and faculty members in critical care management, particularly the effective utilization of crash carts during emergencies.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:
- To enhance awareness about the importance of crash cart management in critical care.
- To strengthen the clinical competencies of nursing students in handling life-threatening situations.
- To encourage a unified and systematic approach in emergency care nursing.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT:
The event was graced by the presence of eminent personalities, including: Prof. Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal, Faculty of Nursing, Mr. Sembian N, Head of Department, Medical Surgical Nursing, University of Medical Sciences, Saifai (Resource Person), Mrs. K. Jyothisree, Associate Professor & HOD, Medical Surgical Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University (Moderator), Heads of Departments from various nursing specialties (Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynecology Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing). Faculty members and students from B.Sc., P.B.B.Sc., and M.Sc. Nursing programmes participated in the Expert Lecture.
The programme commenced with the arrival of guests at 11:00 am, followed by the inaugural ceremony and lamp lighting symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment. The gathering was formally addressed by Mrs. Niladrita deb, Associate professor, dept of MSN, after which the Welcome Speech was delivered by Mrs. K. Jyothisree, Associate professor & HOD of Medical surgical Nursing. The Presidential Address was delivered by Respected vice principal Prof.Dr. Minu S.R., highlighting the importance of preparedness and teamwork in critical care nursing. The key highlight of the event was the Expert Talk by the invited resource person Mr. Sembian N, HOD, Medical Surgical Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, University of Medical sciences, Saifai. The speaker shared valuable insights on systematic crash cart organization, essential equipment and drugs, the golden hour of patient care, and the critical role of nurses in ensuring effective interventions during life-threatening emergencies. The session was highly interactive, with case scenarios and practical examples that enriched the learning experience. The session was highly interactive, engaging both students and faculty through discussions and clarifications.
FELICITATION AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT:
The Felicitation of the Resource Person was conducted with momento and certificate to honour his valuable contribution, the students expressed that the expert lecture was highly informative and practice-oriented. They appreciated the clarity with which crash cart organization and emergency interventions were explained. Many students highlighted that the case scenarios and real-life examples helped them understand the importance of quick decision-making during the “golden hour”. Followed by a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Sandhyarani M., Assistant Professor, Dept. of MSN, where gratitude was expressed. The programme concluded with the National Anthem at 1:30 pm.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, the expert lecture was a grand success, creating awareness among nursing students about the significance of a unified nursing approach in emergency care and strengthening their preparedness to handle critical situations effectively. The Expert Lecture proved to be a highly beneficial and impactful academic event. It provided nursing students and faculty with practical insights into critical care nursing and highlighted the significance of a unified nursing approach in saving lives during emergencies. The session successfully met its objectives and left participants motivated to apply the knowledge in their clinical practice. The session ended with National anthem.
