Experiential Learning Visit to Community Health Centre Chaubeypur Kanpur

An educational visit for the 1st Year GNM Nursing and 1st year ANM students was successfully organized by the Department of Community Health Nursing, Rama College of Nursing, to the Community Health Centre, at Chabepur situated in Kanpur on 26th& 27thFebruary 2026. The primary aim of this visit was to provide first-year students with real-time exposure to the functioning of a Community Health Centre and to help them understand how theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom is applied in actual community healthcare settings. Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by the Mr. Anuj Community Health Centre (Pharmacy Department) and an introductory orientation session was conducted in which he explained the organizational pattern, administrative hierarchy, and the scope of services delivered at the CHC level. Students were made aware that a Community Health Centre serves as a referral unit for Primary Health Centres and plays a vital role in delivering preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative health services to the rural population.
The students accompanied by Mrs. Shreedevi G.C and Ms. Jaisika Jatav Department of Community health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, during the visit, students were systematically guided through various departments including the Outpatient Department (OPD), Maternal and Child Health (MCH) unit, immunization room, labour room, family planning unit, laboratory, pharmacy and record section. Each department provided valuable insights into patient care management, documentation procedures and service delivery systems. The infrastructure of the centre, including well-ventilated consultation rooms, essential obstetric equipment in the labour room, cold chain maintenance in the immunization room, laboratory diagnostic facilities, and the availability of essential drugs in the pharmacy, was explained in detail. Special emphasis was placed on infection control practices, waste management, cleanliness, and patient safety measures, which are crucial components of quality healthcare delivery. Students observed the patient flow process from registration to consultation, treatment and follow-up services, which helped them understand the coordination required among different departments.
A significant part of the visit focused on understanding the roles and responsibilities of healthcare personnel working at the Community Health Centre. Students learned about the responsibilities of Medical Officers, Staff Nurses, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Health Workers, Pharmacists and Laboratory Technicians. They observed how nurses play a key role in antenatal care, postnatal care, immunization services, health education, counselling, family planning services and implementation of national health programs. The importance of teamwork, communication skills, leadership and community participation in improving health outcomes was highlighted throughout the interaction. Students also gained knowledge about referral services for high-risk patients, emergency management, and record-keeping systems essential for monitoring and evaluation of health programs.
Overall, the educational visit proved to be an enriching and meaningful learning experience for the students. It enhanced their understanding of rural healthcare delivery systems and strengthened their confidence in interacting with patients and healthcare professionals. The exposure helped students develop a positive attitude toward community health nursing and understand their future professional responsibilities more clearly. The objectives of the visit were successfully achieved and the students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain practical knowledge beyond classroom learning. The visit not only broadened their academic perspective but also motivated them to contribute effectively to community health services in their future nursing careers.
