The Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, through the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, organized a One-Day Expert Lecture on the occasion of World Cancer Day on 4th February at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Nursing. World Cancer Day is observed globally on 4th February every year to raise awareness about cancer, promote early detection, encourage prevention strategies, and improve access to quality care. The day emphasizes the collective responsibility of healthcare professionals, especially nurses, in reducing the global cancer burden through education, advocacy, and compassionate care.
The programme was organized with the theme “Nursing Care Across the Cancer Continuum,” highlighting the comprehensive role of nurses from cancer prevention and screening to treatment, rehabilitation, survivorship, and palliative care. The event aimed to enhance the knowledge and clinical understanding of nursing students regarding holistic and patient-centered cancer care.
The programme began with an inaugural ceremony in the esteemed presence of Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Dean-cum-Principal, Faculty of Nursing, and Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal. The inauguration was graced by all Heads of Departments, faculty members, and approximately 200 nursing students, reflecting enthusiastic participation and academic interest. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. K. Anuradha, Vice Principal, Asram College of Nursing, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, a distinguished academician and experienced nursing educator. In her expert lecture, she elaborated on the concept of the cancer care continuum, explaining the critical nursing responsibilities at each stage prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, survivorship, and end-of-life care. She highlighted evidence-based nursing interventions, symptom management, psychosocial support, patient education, and the importance of empathy and ethical practice in oncology nursing. Her lecture provided valuable insights into current trends in cancer nursing and motivated students to develop competency, compassion, and professionalism while caring for cancer patients.
The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer discussion, during which students actively participated and clarified their doubts related to oncology nursing practices, patient counseling, and multidisciplinary care. The discussion enriched the learning experience and enhanced students’ critical thinking skills.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session, followed by feedback and vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the keynote speaker, management, organizing committee, faculty members, and students for their support and active participation.
