Expert Lecture Highlights Transformation of Agriculture into Agribusiness and Role of Agro Industries in Rural Development

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Allied Industries, Rama University, Kanpur organized an Expert Lecture on 14 April 2026 with the objective of enhancing understanding of the emerging transformation of agriculture into agribusiness and the role of agro-based industries in rural development.
Content:- The session was delivered by Rakesh Roushan, Deputy General Manager (Agri-Input), DeHaat, Patna, who is an experienced professional in the agribusiness sector with extensive exposure to agricultural value chains, rural entrepreneurship, and agribusiness development.
At the beginning of the session the anchor welcomed the expert and briefly introduced the topic and objectives of the lecture. He also highlighted the importance of understanding modern agricultural trends where traditional farming practices are gradually evolving into integrated agribusiness systems.
During the lecture, Rakesh Roushan explained how agriculture today is no longer limited to crop production but is increasingly becoming a complete agribusiness ecosystem that includes production, processing, value addition, supply chains, marketing, and digital agricultural services. He emphasized that agro-based industries such as food processing units, dairy enterprises, agro-input industries, and agricultural technology platforms play a crucial role in enhancing farmers’ income and generating employment opportunities in rural areas.The expert also discussed the importance of agri-startups, digital agriculture platforms, and farmer-centric services in strengthening rural economies. Drawing from his vast professional experience, he shared practical insights about working with leading organizations such as Monsanto, Corteva Agriscience, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Rabobank, PwC, Digital Green, and DeHaat. He highlighted how these organizations contribute to improving agricultural productivity, strengthening supply chains, and supporting farmers through innovative solutions.The expert further elaborated on the growing role of agro-based industries in rural development, stating that these industries help in value addition to agricultural produce, reducing post-harvest losses, creating rural employment, and promoting entrepreneurship among rural youth. He encouraged students to explore career opportunities in the agribusiness sector and emphasized the need for innovation, technological adoption, and sustainable agricultural practices.Students actively participated in the session and interacted with the expert during the question-and-answer session. Their queries related to career opportunities in agribusiness, agri-startups, and the future of digital agriculture were addressed in detail by the speaker.The lecture proved to be highly informative and inspiring for the students, as it provided them with practical knowledge about the modern agricultural economy and the expanding scope of agribusiness in rural development.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr.Vinay J. Silas, HoD, FASAI, who expressed sincere gratitude to the expert speaker for sharing his valuable insights and inspiring the students with his professional experiences.
