On the concluding day of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, in collaboration with the Academy of Paediatrics, Kanpur, organized an insightful expert lecture based on the global theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.” The event took place in the Seminar Hall from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, under the able coordination of the Department of Child Health Nursing and Obstetrics &Gynaecology Nursing.
The program was skill fully moderated by Prof. Vipin A, Head of the Department of Child Health Nursing. Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal of the Faculty of Nursing, served as the convener, while Asst. Prof. Veena Sharma handled the proceedings as the Master of Ceremonies.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Vipin A, emphasizing the vital role of breastfeeding in improving maternal and child health. Following this, Principal Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson delivered her opening remarks, underlining the importance of ongoing education and advocacy in creating sustainable breastfeeding support systems.Vice Principal Dr. Minu S. R. also addressed the gathering with an encouraging and insightful speech. She highlighted the institutional responsibility in fostering a breastfeeding-friendly environment, and emphasized how coordinated efforts between educators, healthcare professionals, and communities are essential to support lactating mothers.
The expert lecture featured distinguished speakers Prof. Dr. V. K. Tondon and Dr. Raj Tilak from Rama Hospital & Research Centre, Kanpur, who shared their in-depth perspectives aligned with the global theme. Their presentations shed light on the current challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers, especially working women, and offered practical, evidence-based strategies for building enabling environments in workplaces, homes, and clinical settings.
The audience included an enthusiastic group of teaching and non-teaching staff, along with nursing students from B.Sc. Nursing (6th & 7th semesters), GNM (2nd year), and ANM (1st year). An interactive Q&A session allowed students and faculty to directly engage with the experts, clarifying doubts and deepening their understanding of contemporary breastfeeding practices.
A prize distribution ceremony followed, celebrating the winners of various competitions conducted earlier in the week, including poster presentations, role-plays, and model exhibitions. The awards were distributed by the chief guests and Principal Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, adding a note of celebration to the academic proceedings.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Astha Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, organizing committee, faculty, students, and supporting staff. She particularly acknowledged the collaborative support from the Academy of Paediatrics, Kanpur, which helped make the program a success.
The event ended on a high note, reaffirming the collective commitment of the faculty and students to promoting breastfeeding awareness and creating a supportive ecosystem in both clinical and community settings.
