Expert Talk on Indian Knowledge System Enriches Legal Education through India's Timeless Intellectual Heritage and Wisdom

The Faculty of Juridical Sciences (FJS), Rama University, Kanpur, organized an Expert Talk on "Indian Knowledge System (IKS)" on 14 July 2026 with the objective of promoting awareness and appreciation of India's rich intellectual, cultural, philosophical, and legal heritage among students. The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Praveen Kumar Mall, Dean, Faculty of Juridical Sciences, and Ms. Riddhi Tripathi, Head of the Department, as part of the Faculty's commitment to integrating the principles of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) envisioned under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sadhna Trivedi, who presented an insightful lecture on the philosophy, evolution, and contemporary relevance of the Indian Knowledge System. She explained that IKS encompasses India's ancient traditions of education, jurisprudence, ethics, governance, science, literature, medicine, and holistic learning. Referring to classical Indian texts such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Arthashastra, Dharmashastras, and other traditional sources, she highlighted their enduring contribution to legal thought, governance, and social justice.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Kaneez Fatima, Coordinator, and Faculty of Juridical Sciences. She welcomed the dignitaries, introduced the theme of the expert lecture, coordinated the proceedings, and ensured the smooth conduct of the event. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Praveen Kumar Mall, Dean, Faculty of Juridical Sciences, appreciated the initiative of organizing the expert lecture and emphasized the importance of incorporating Indian Knowledge System into higher education. He stated that understanding India's intellectual heritage strengthens academic excellence, ethical values, and research-oriented legal education.
