06 Jun 2023
The globally recognized World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and RAMA University's Faculty of Commerce and Management have collaborated on an outstanding outreach initiative to increase public awareness of wetlands. The NSS volunteers-led event was held at Shivrajpur block's picturesque Harnoo Wetland.
Under the direction of Mr. Shivang Verma, Assistant Project Officer for River, Wetlands, and Water Policy at WWF-India, and Mr. Rajesh Bajpai, Senior Coordinator for River Basins & Climate Adaptation at WWF, the students actively engaged with the neighbourhood village community to highlight the ecological significance of wetlands and the surrounding biodiversity. Wetland health assessment methods were also demonstrated to highlight the necessity of conservation activities.
The extension and outreach activity aimed to educate and sensitize the community to the significance of wetlands, which are vital ecosystems supporting a wide array of plant and animal life. The volunteers passionately shared their knowledge and experiences, emphasizing the importance of preserving and protecting these delicate habitats.
Harnoo Wetland, with its picturesque landscapes and diverse wildlife, provided the perfect backdrop for this educational initiative. The NSS volunteers, donning their vibrant uniforms, interacted with community members, fostering an environment of knowledge-sharing and environmental stewardship.
