Faculty of Juridical Sciences organized a One Day Workshop on Legal Drafting

The Faculty of Juridical Sciences at Rama University organized a One Day Workshop on Legal Drafting on 05 May 2025, held in the smart class room no- 203 of the faculty premises under the guidance of Dr. Praveen Kumar Mall, Dean(FJS). The workshop, conducted from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, was attended by law students.
The session was led by Dr. G.C. Giri, a highly experienced legal academician and Professor at the Indian Institute of Legal Studies (IILS), Shimla. Dr. Giri is well-known for his expertise in legal education and drafting practices and has contributed significantly to curriculum development in legal pedagogy.
This initiative was aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills in legal drafting—an essential component of legal education and professional practice. The workshop emphasized the theoretical foundations, structure, and techniques involved in drafting legal documents such as petitions, contracts, notices, affidavits, and legal opinions.

- Introduction to Legal Drafting:
Workshop began by explaining the fundamentals of legal drafting, including the importance of precision, clarity, and legal language. He emphasized how good drafting is the cornerstone of effective legal communication.
- Principles of Effective Drafting:
Dr. Giri discussed core principles such as brevity, coherence, consistency in terminology, and the correct use of legal maxims and citations. Emphasis was placed on avoiding redundancy, ambiguity, and jargon that could mislead or confuse.
- Drafting Exercise and Demonstration:
Students were guided through live demonstrations of drafting legal documents such as a bail application and a lease agreement. Dr. Giri also reviewed common mistakes and illustrated how to rectify them.
- Interactive Q&A and Case-Based Learning:
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session where students asked insightful questions on drafting strategies and real-life legal scenarios. Dr. Giri addressed issues such as adapting drafts for different courts and tailoring language for persuasive legal argumentation.
