The School Health Programme (SHP) is a government-led initiative aimed at promoting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of school-age children.Under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Jasmi Johnson, Dean, Faculty of Nursing, and under the supervision of Mr. Aslam Abbas, Head of the Department of Community Health Nursing, the students of the Faculty of Nursing, collaboration with Mrs. Richa Awasthi, Principal of Govt. Prathmik Vidyalay, Kukradev, Kanpur. The students embarked on a comprehensive General Health Check-up for approximately 60 primary students, conducting vital sign assessments and anthropometric measurements.
The Department of Community Health Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, successfully organized a 2-day School Health Program at Government Primary School, Kukradev, Mandhana, Kanpur. The program aimed to promote health awareness and to Find out any Minor Ailments among Primary Level School going students.
EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS: -
DAY 1
On Day 1, a General Health Check-up was conducted for the students, which included the measurement of height and weight along with an oral health examination to assess their overall well-being. This was followed by Health Education Sessions that focused on Personal Hygiene, emphasizing the importance of regular handwashing, proper bathing techniques, and maintaining dental hygiene. Another crucial topic covered was Good Touch and Bad Touch, where students were taught about body autonomy, personal safety, recognizing safe and unsafe touch, and the importance of speaking up if they ever feel uncomfortable or threatened.
DAY-2
Day 2 featured a Role Play on Mobile Addiction, which portrayed the negative effects of excessive mobile phone use, such as decreased physical activity, impaired vision, disturbed sleep patterns, and social isolation. This was followed by an interactive session that encouraged students to adopt healthy screen time habits. The day also included further Health Education Sessions, especially on Dental Care, where the importance of regular brushing and flossing was discussed along with the benefits of a tooth-friendly diet and the need to avoid sugary snacks and beverages. Additionally, the topic of Hand Washing was reinforced, highlighting its critical role in preventing illness. Students were educated on the importance and merits of hand washing, such as reducing the spread of germs, promoting good health, and preventing diseases. Conversely, the demerits of avoiding hand washing were discussed, including the increased risk of infections, transmission of harmful bacteria, and overall poor hygiene outcomes.
Following the completion of the health assessment, the nursing students engaged in an interactive session, addressing the queries of the school children regarding health, hygiene, and nutrition.
Students actively engaged in the programme and provided encouraging feedback on its educational value and hands-on learning experience. The successful completion of the School Health Programme received warm appreciation from Mrs. Richa Awasthi, Principal of Govt. Prathmik Vidyalay, Kukradev, Kanpur., acknowledging the impactful contributions made by the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, in promoting community health initiatives.
