World Immunization Week is celebrated every year from April 24 to April 30. This global healthcare event aims to raise awareness about the importance of vaccines and to honor the contributions of policymakers, healthcare workers, and stakeholders involved in successful immunization drives. With vaccines now available to prevent more than 20 life-threatening diseases, people across all age groups are living longer and healthier lives.
In a proactive effort to support this year’s national theme on immunization awareness, the Department of Child Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, conducted a dedicated community outreach program on April 26, 2025. The initiative aimed to educate and empower rural families with accurate information about vaccines and their role in protecting child health.
The outreach was held in Bhawanipur Village, where B.Sc. Nursing students from Semester VI brought learning to life through a lively and educational role play. The performance explored community attitudes towards immunization, emphasized its importance in preventing life-threatening diseases, and provided valuable guidance on post-vaccination care for young children. Presented in a local dialect and relatable format, the activity effectively engaged the villagers, making health education both accessible and enjoyable.
The Faculty of Nursing team commenced their journey at 10:00 AM and arrived in the village by 10:30 AM. Upon reaching, they were greeted by the village Pradhan, Mr. Ranjeet Pal, who welcomed the initiative and extended full support. The event officially began at 11:00 AM and continued for an hour, drawing an attentive crowd that included mothers, caregivers, and local children.
The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. Many mothers shared their appreciation, expressing how the session helped clarify doubts and encouraged them to adhere to their children's immunization schedules. Several mentioned that they felt more confident in seeking healthcare support and ensuring timely vaccinations after attending the program.
Mr. Ranjeet Pal, the Gram Pradhan, praised the initiative for its meaningful impact. He commended the students and faculty for addressing critical health topics in such a thoughtful and engaging manner. He noted that such outreach efforts strengthen the relationship between educational institutions and rural communities, and he welcomed future collaborations with Rama University.
As a token of care and connection, the team distributed stationery supplies and chocolates to the village children, spreading joy and reinforcing a friendly rapport with the community.
The outreach program not only raised essential awareness about immunization but also reaffirmed Rama University’s ongoing commitment to community service, public health education, and holistic learning. Through such efforts, the university continues to bridge the gap between classroom learning and community well-being—one village at a time.
