30 Sep 2026
World Heart Day is observed every year on 29 September to create awareness about cardiovascular health and encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyle practices. The day emphasizes the importance of prevention, regular health check-ups and early identification of heart disease risk factors. On this occasion, the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University organized a community outreach programme to promote heart health among the rural population. On the occasion of World Heart Day 2026, the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Mandhana, Kanpur, organized an Extension Outreach Programme titled “The Heart Health Awareness Campaign” on 29 September 2026 at Bhavanipur Village, Kanpur, in collaboration with the Community Wellness Club and National Service Scheme (NSS), Rama University. The programme was organized according to the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat”, with the aim of creating awareness about heart health, prevention of cardiovascular diseases and healthy lifestyle practices.
The programme started at 10:00 a.m. with the participation of faculty members, nursing students and villagers. Faculty members highlighted the importance of World Heart Day and encouraged the community to maintain a healthy lifestyle, monitor their health regularly and seek medical advice when required. As part of the programme, free blood pressure monitoring and weight assessment were conducted by nursing students under faculty supervision. A few participants were found to have elevated blood pressure readings and were advised to consult healthcare professionals for further evaluation. The students also explained the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and maintaining a healthy body weight.
A health awareness role play was presented by the nursing students focusing on major risk factors for heart disease, including unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and stress. The students also highlighted the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking timely medical assistance. The role play was well received by the villagers. An interactive health education session was conducted to educate the community about balanced diet, regular physical activity, maintaining healthy body weight, stress management, adequate rest, avoidance of tobacco and limiting alcohol consumption. The importance of regular health check-ups was also emphasized. The information was shared in simple and understandable language.
The villagers participated actively in the programme, particularly in the screening and health education activities. Women participants also showed keen interest in healthy dietary practices and physical activity. The nursing students answered their queries and encouraged them to adopt simple healthy habits in their daily lives. Refreshments were also distributed to the participants. The programme provided nursing students with practical experience in health screening, health education, communication and community interaction. It helped them apply their theoretical knowledge in a real community setting under the guidance of faculty members. The programme concluded with positive feedback and appreciation from the villagers. Overall, the World Heart Day 2026 – “The Heart Health Awareness Campaign” successfully promoted awareness regarding cardiovascular health and healthy lifestyle practices.
