Mental health is an essential component of overall health and well-being. It influences how individuals think, feel, behave, develop relationships, cope with challenges, make decisions, and participate meaningfully in society. World Mental Health Day is observed annually on 10th October to raise awareness about mental health issues, promote understanding, reduce stigma, and encourage collective efforts towards better mental health and well-being.
In connection with World Mental Health Day 2026, the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Mandhana, Kanpur, in collaboration with Peaceful Mind Foundation, New Delhi, organized a one-day online seminar titled “MIND MATTERS 2026: From Awareness to Action” on 09 October 2026. The seminar was organized by the Department of Mental Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, with the objective of creating awareness regarding contemporary mental health concerns and encouraging participants to move from awareness towards meaningful action. The programme was conducted in online mode and brought together participants for an academic and interactive discussion on mental health and well-being.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome to all the participants, followed by the ceremonial inauguration of the seminar. The inaugural session was followed by the Presidential Address delivered by Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Dean-cum-Principal, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University. Her address highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and the responsibility of educational institutions and healthcare professionals in promoting holistic health. She emphasized the significance of creating an environment where mental health can be discussed openly and sensitively and encouraged participants to recognize mental health as an integral component of comprehensive healthcare.
The first keynote session, titled “Mental Health in the Modern World,” was delivered by Dr. Jithin Thomas Parel, College of Nursing, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi. The session emphasized the importance of mental well-being alongside physical health and highlighted the need for awareness, early recognition of mental health concerns, effective communication, supportive care, and timely professional intervention. The session was particularly relevant for nursing students and healthcare professionals, who frequently interact with individuals and families experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties.
The second keynote session, titled “Beyond the Uniform,” was delivered by Dr. Prabhjeet Singh Narula, Founder, PsySigns & Peaceful Mind Foundation, New Delhi.
