FASAI Inaugurates One-Week Faculty Development Programme on Future Scientific Research, Ethics and Sustainability

Content:- The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Allied Industries (FASAI), Rama University is organizing a One-Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme “Future of Scientific Research: Ethics, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability” from 24 to 29 August 2026. The programme aims to provide faculty members and participants with contemporary knowledge, research-oriented perspectives, and practical insights into emerging developments shaping the future of scientific research.
The inaugural ceremony of the FDP was held on 24 August 2026 in the presence of Dignitaries from various departments, faculty members, and FDP participants. The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Dean, FASAI with a live plant as part of the inaugural ceremony, symbolizing the FDP’s emphasis on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the need to integrate sustainable practices into scientific research.
The inaugural technical session was delivered by Dr. Alok Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR–Indian Institute of Pulses Research (ICAR-IIPR), Kanpur, who served as the guest speaker. He delivered an insightful session on “Genome Editing Technology: Applications and Advances.”
During his session, Dr. Das explained the fundamentals and growing significance of genome editing technologies in modern agricultural research. He discussed how advanced genome-editing approaches can be utilized for the precise modification of specific genetic traits and highlighted their potential applications in developing improved crop varieties with desirable characteristics. He emphasized the importance of genome editing in addressing emerging challenges such as climate change, changing environmental conditions, crop productivity, nutritional requirements, and biotic and abiotic stresses.
He further highlighted that genome editing can contribute to faster and more targeted crop improvement, particularly when compared with conventional breeding approaches. The session provided participants with an understanding of the potential of genome editing in developing crops with improved stress tolerance, disease resistance, quality attributes, and productivity. The discussion also emphasized the need for responsible and ethical application of advanced biotechnology, particularly in relation to biosafety, regulatory considerations, and societal acceptance.
The session proved highly informative for the FDP participants as it connected emerging biotechnology with the broader theme of the future of scientific research. It encouraged participants to understand how modern technologies such as genome editing can contribute to sustainable agriculture, food security, and innovative research solutions.
The inaugural programme provided an effective platform for interaction among faculty members, Deans from various departments, and FDP participants, fostering an academic environment focused on emerging technologies, ethical research practices, and sustainability.
At the conclusion of the inaugural session, the guest speaker was felicitated with a Certificate of Appreciation by Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Dean, FASAI as a mark of gratitude for his valuable contribution and insightful interaction with the participants.
The inaugural ceremony successfully set the academic tone for the week-long FDP and created an encouraging environment for participants to engage with emerging areas of scientific research. The programme is expected to further strengthen participants’ understanding of research ethics, artificial intelligence, sustainability, emerging technologies, and contemporary research methodologies through its upcoming sessions.
