From lab to the world: harnessing artificial intelligence for food safety, border security & global exports

The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Rama University, Mandhana, Kanpur Nagar, organized an International Expert Lecture on “From Lab to the World: How AI is Transforming Food Testing, Border Safety & Global Exports” on 18th September 2026 (Friday) from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the FET Building, Rama University.
The programme witnessed the participation of 170 students from B.Tech., B.Sc., and M.Sc. programmes, along with faculty members. The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Shukla, Dean, FET, with Prof. (Dr.) Vivek Srivastava, HOD, Department of Biotechnology, FET, serving as the Convener, and Dr. Alok Raghav as the Coordinator.
Faculty members including Dr. Abhay Shukla, Dr. Vivek Srivastava, Dr. Alok Raghav, Dr. Samakshi Verma, Dr. Shraddha Sahu, Dr. Aruna Rani, and Ms. Parul Singh actively participated in the programme and supported its successful execution.
Objective of the Lecture
The lecture was organized with the objective of providing students and faculty members with advanced and contemporary knowledge on the integration of Artificial Intelligence with food testing, food safety, food processing, and biotechnology. The session aimed to familiarize participants with emerging technologies and their practical applications in the food and biotechnology sectors.
Expert Lecture
The keynote lecture was delivered by Ahmad Mujtaba Barekzai, Senior Faculty and Nominated Expert, Ministry of Food, Government of Afghanistan, and Kabul University, Kabul, Afghanistan.
During the session, the expert provided valuable insights into the application of Artificial Intelligence and deep machine learning models in food processing and food safety. He further discussed the emerging role of AI in the inspection and scrutiny of food-related consignments at international borders, highlighting its applications in food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and safe international food trade.
Interactive Learning & Student Engagement
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to engage with an international expert and gain a broader understanding of the rapidly evolving role of AI-driven technologies in food biotechnology and global food safety systems.
The lecture also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary approaches that combine biotechnology, artificial intelligence, food science, machine learning, and data-driven technologies. The discussions encouraged students to explore emerging research areas and technological opportunities at the intersection of these disciplines.
Conclusion
The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to the distinguished international expert for sharing his valuable knowledge and expertise. Gratitude was also extended to the Dean, faculty members, coordinators, and students for their active participation and support.
