Metro Ride Initiative to Spread Glaucoma Awareness in Kanpur

Faculty of Allied & Healthcare Sciences, Dept. of optometry, Rama University, Kanpur, under guidance of our Principal Dr. Brijendra Nigam, organized a Glaucoma awareness metro ride with Dept. of Ophthalmology to spread awareness about Glaucoma and their complication, management between general populations in Kanpur Metro Station between Motijheel to IIT Kanpur.
The Department of Optometry organized a metro ride from Motijheel Metro Station to IIT Kanpur Main Gate on the occasion of World Glaucoma Week to spread awareness about glaucoma among the general public.
The activity was conducted with the participation of faculty members and students of the Department of Optometry. During the metro ride, students carried awareness placards, Pamphlets, and interacted with commuters, informing them about glaucoma, its risk factors, early symptoms, and the importance of regular eye examinations for early detection and prevention of vision loss.
Pamphlets related to glaucoma awareness were also distributed among passengers to educate them about the disease, commonly known as the “silent thief of sight.” The initiative aimed to encourage the public to undergo timely eye check-ups and understand the importance of glaucoma screening.
The metro ride awareness program successfully attracted the attention of commuters and helped disseminate valuable information about glaucoma. Such initiatives play an important role in promoting community eye health and preventing avoidable blindness.
