National Periodontist Day Celebration at Rama Dental College Kanpur

The Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Rama University, Kanpur, celebrated National Periodontist Day on 23rd February 2026. This day marks the registration of the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) as a non-profit organization under state laws in 1975. The main objective of ISP is to promote awareness and advance knowledge in the field of periodontology among the public.
The event was organized under the guidance of the department faculty, including Prof. & Head Dr. Janardhana Amaranath B.J, Dr. Shruti Gupta, Dr. Anishka Dhanai, Dr. Anita Mathur, and Dr. Neebha. The celebration was conducted with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and staff.
As part of the awareness initiatives, dental hygienist students presented an impactful street play (Nukkad Natak) at different locations. A rally was also conducted to spread awareness among the public about the importance of maintaining good periodontal and oral health.
Postgraduate students actively distributed educational pamphlets and toothpaste samples to patients and visitors both inside and outside the department. A free dental check-up camp was organized, which saw participation from approximately 300 patients, offering them an opportunity to assess their oral health.
Within the department, free oral prophylaxis was provided to around 120 patients. Demonstrations on proper tooth-brushing techniques and the use of interdental cleaning aids were also conducted to educate patients on maintaining good oral hygiene practices.
To promote awareness and creativity among students, a poster competition was arranged for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The competition received an excellent response, with participants effectively showcasing their knowledge and understanding of periodontal health. The best entries were recognized and awarded certificates.
The celebration of National Periodontist Day 2026 was successfully carried out with the aim of educating and motivating the public about the importance of oral hygiene and periodontal health as essential components of overall well-being. The organizing chairperson, Dr. Janardhana Amaranath B.J., expressed sincere gratitude to all faculty members, postgraduate students, undergraduate students, interns, and dental hygienist students for their dedicated support and efforts.
The department also extends heartfelt thanks to the Indian Society of Periodontology for their continuous support and guidance.
