National Public Health Dentistry Day 2026 Celebrated with Competitions, Village Adoption, Awareness Activities and Student Achievements

Objectives:
National Public Health Dentistry Day is celebrated on 19th June every year. The theme for this year was “Integrate to Elevate – Oral Health as a Pillar of Public Health.” Rama University’s Department of Public Health Dentistry took the initiative to mark the occasion and organized several events under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Asheesh K. Sawhny, and Head of Department, Dr. Nidhi Shukla.
Outcomes:
National Public Health Dentistry Day was observed by Rama Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre at Rama University, Kanpur, through a number of activities designed to promote overall as well as oral health.
1. MoU Signing for Village Adoption Program
An MoU was signed between the Department of Public Health Dentistry and Gram Panchayat, Hora Kachhar Village, as part of its community outreach initiative. The Department of Public Health Dentistry has adopted Hora Kachhar Village for a period of three years under the community dental health program titled “Swasth Mukh – Sehat ka Aadhar.”
2. National Pedagogy and Health Talk Competitions
The Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD), in association with Yenepoya Dental College, organized national-level pedagogy and health talk competitions on a virtual platform for UG and PG students. Dr. Nidhi Shukla, Head of the Department, was invited as a distinguished judge for the event, where students from various institutions showcased their pedagogy skills. The highlight of the event was the remarkable achievement of three undergraduate students—Sanjana Pandey, Ayushi Dixit, and Anamika Srivastava—who secured first position in their respective sessions.
3. Future Prospects in PHD – Talk by HOD
A talk on “Future Prospects in Public Health Dentistry” was delivered to undergraduate students by the Head of Department, Dr. Nidhi Shukla. She emphasized the vital role of Public Health Dentistry in improving the oral health of communities through prevention, education, research, and health service planning. She also highlighted various career opportunities related to public health.
4. Cake Cutting Ceremony
A cake-cutting ceremony was organized to mark the occasion and celebrate the contributions of Public Health Dentists in advancing community oral health. Faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and undergraduate students participated in the celebration, fostering a spirit of unity and professional pride.
5. Quiz Competition
An interactive quiz competition was conducted for undergraduate students to enhance their knowledge of Public Health Dentistry. The quiz covered various topics including oral epidemiology, preventive dentistry, national oral health programs, indices, and current public health issues. Participants displayed excellent enthusiasm and competitive spirit, making the event both educational and engaging.
6. Photo Campaign
A photo campaign titled “I Am a Public Health Dentist” was organized to promote awareness regarding the specialty and encourage professional identity among students and faculty.
The event successfully increased awareness about the scope and significance of Public Health Dentistry, encouraged student participation, and strengthened the commitment towards promoting oral health as an integral component of public health.
