The "World No Tobacco Day" was enthusiastically celebrated on May 31, 2023, at Rama Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre in Kanpur. In addition to addressing the global food crisis, this year's theme, "We Need Food, Not Tobacco," emphasized the importance of promoting alternative crop production and marketing potential for tobacco farmers. Rama University's Department of Public Health Dentistry took the initiative to promote awareness of this international campaign and set up several events in its support.
One of the highlights of the day was a captivating guest lecture delivered by Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Rama University. Her enlightening talk shed light on the significance of transitioning from tobacco cultivation to sustainable and nutritious crop production. Dr. Yadav's expertise offered valuable insights into the potential of alternative crops, providing hope for a brighter future for tobacco farmers.
In line with the objective of creating awareness and promoting healthy habits, the Department of Public Health Dentistry organized oral health outreach programs. A free anti-tobacco education and screening camp was held on May 27 at Panchayat Bhavan in Gabraha, Kanpur. In addition to receiving tobacco counselling and nicotine chewing gums, more than 30 patients had examinations throughout the camp. The patients were subsequently recommended to visit Rama Dental College, Hospital & Research Centre in Kanpur for extra counseling. Success of the camp was credited to Dr. Nidhi Shukla's direction as professor and department head as well as Mr. Subramanyam's successfully organized the event.
Furthermore, the department's postgraduate students conducted free tobacco cessation counseling sessions for tobacco users as part of the campaign. They also distributed nicotine chewing gums to assist individuals in their journey towards quitting tobacco. The response from tobacco users was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting their determination to overcome their addiction and embrace healthier lifestyles.
Under the excellent leadership of the principal, Dr. Baljeet Singh Hora, and Dr. Nidhi Shukla, the head of the department of public health dentistry, these activities were carried out successfully. Their dedication to improving public health and innovative leadership were key factors in the success of the World No Tobacco Day activities at Rama Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre.

Through their efforts, they have highlighted the urgent need to support tobacco farmers in transitioning to sustainable crop cultivation and have made a positive impact on individuals striving to quit tobacco use.
