Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop Conducted for First Year PG Residents at Rama Medical College Kanpur, September 16, 2025- A Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop and Hands-on Training for the first-year postgraduate residents was successfully conducted at Lecture Theatre–3, Rama Medical College. The program was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by dignitaries, marking the beginning of a vital training session aimed at saving lives during emergencies.
On the occasion, Dean Prof. Brijendra Nigam highlighted the importance of BLS training not only for medical students but also for non-medical persons and even bystanders. Sharing his own experiences of performing life-saving CPR on an air flight, roadside, and in medical wards, Prof. Nigam emphasized that “every person should become a saviour in times of emergency.” Prof. Manisha Srivastava, Head of Emergency Medicine, stressed the need for regular hands-on training. She pointed out that during real-life emergencies, people often forget the protocol, leading to failure in initiating CPR within the crucial golden 2–3 minutes.
Prof. Swati Trivedi, Head of Anaesthesia, urged PG residents to revise the basic BLS protocols every year and to spread this knowledge among common people and non-medical personnel, ensuring wider community preparedness.
The workshop witnessed active training sessions led by Prof. Archna and Dr. Mohd. Mouzammil, who provided structured guidance and demonstrations. Dr. Tushar Narula and Dr. Praveen Sahu and Dr. Govind, from the Department of Emergency Medicine offered hands-on practice sessions to the attending PG residents.
This training program is in line with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines, which mandate BLS training as a prerequisite for postgraduate students to become eligible for their final university examinations.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, reinforcing the message that timely CPR and BLS skills can make the difference between life and death.
