Rama University's (Community Medicine) Supports TB Patients through "Poshak Aahar Vitran" Program

The Department of Community Medicine at Rama University's Rural Medical College and Hospital Research Centre (RMCHRC) in Kanpur organized the seventh round of "Poshak Aahar Vitran" for tuberculosis (TB) patients on May 23, 2023. This event, held at the Urban Health Training Center (UHTC) Navsheel Dhaam, aimed to provide nutritious meals and support to TB patients as part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program.
Under the direction of Dr. Anju Gahlot, Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine at RMCHRC Kanpur, the event was a cooperative effort aimed at ensuring the wellbeing and effective treatment of TB patients. The initiative focused on patients who had finished their therapy and whose sputum test results had come back negative by April 2023. These patients now no longer required further dietary assistance.In May 2023, "Poshak Aahar Vitran" was made available to seven newly adopted TB patients. During the event, these patients were given an introduction to the programme.
During the event, Dr. Anju Gahlot, along with Dr. Prof. Atul Kumar Singh, Dr. Poonam Kushwaha and Dr. R.P. Gupta addressed the TB patients. They emphasized the importance of completing the treatment, maintaining a nutritious diet, and engaging in exercises such as Pranayama. The doctors also provided valuable instructions to prevent the transmission of tuberculosis.
Clinical examinations were conducted to assess the health status of the patients. The pulmonary TB patients showed improved lung conditions, with a significant reduction in symptoms. The extra-pulmonary patients also experienced symptom improvement, and none of the patients exhibited weight loss. This positive progress highlighted the effectiveness of the treatment and the patients' commitment to their recovery.
The event was successful, thanks to the cooperation and support of the UHTC staff. The Department of Community Medicine at Rama University reaffirmed its dedication to the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program by adopting the seven new TB patients in May 2023 at UHTC Navsheel Dhaam, RMCHRC Kanpur.
