Report: ORAL HYGIENE DAY CELEBRATION

Department of Periodontology, Rama Dental College Hospital & Research Centre, Kanpur celebrated Oral Hygiene Day on 1st August 2022 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G.B. Shankwalker, the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology . The day aims at spreading awareness about the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and the ways to prevent several dental as well as systemic diseases.
The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp to seek blessings from the Almighty. Later on, a floral tribute was offered to Dr. G.B. Shankwalker, the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology with a cake cutting ceremony. The rally was organized by the periodontology department in the presence of Dr. Baljeet Singh Hora (Principal, Faculty of Dental sciences, Rama University ), Dr. Janardhana Amaranath BJ (Prof. & Head, Department of Periodontics, Rama University ) , Dr. Ira Gupta (Professor, Department of Periodontics, Rama University) , Dr. Nikhat Fatima (Professor, Department of Periodontics, Rama University) Dr. Hiroj Siddharth B. (Reader, Department of Periodontics, Rama University) Dr. Shruti Gupta (Reader, Department of Periodontics, Rama University), Dr. Lynn Johnson (Reader, Department of Periodontics, Rama University) Dr. Neelam Das (Senior Lecturer, Department of Periodontics, Rama University) and More than 200 people including faculty members, postgraduates, undergraduates students participated in the rally with banners, placards, and slogans to create awareness among the public on the importance of oral hygiene for oral and overall health.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ira Gupta on the maintenance of good oral hygiene for patients and their attendants along with free dental checkups. patient education and motivation were done by showing plaque in patients' mouths by using plaque detection device, and free distribution of toothpaste, brushes, and pamphlets was done which are sponsored by GSK. An interactive session on oral health care was held between the students and the staff members which was moderated by Dr. Janardhana Amaranath B J.
A Nukkad-Natak was performed by dental hygienist students to create awareness and education among the public about the importance of good oral hygiene and oral health for complete overall health under the guidance of Dr. Hiroj Siddharth B. A quiz contest was held among undergraduate students of BDS under the supervision of Dr. Nikhat Fatima, and Dr. Lynn Johnson. E- poster and slogan contest was also organized for postgraduate students under the guidance of Dr. Neelam Das. Winners of the competitions were awarded certificates by Dr. Janardhana Amaranath B.J. Lunch was arranged for faculty and all students at end of the program. The organizing secretary Dr. Ira Gupta said that they are planning to have many more such meaningful programs in the near future.The organizing chairperson, Dr. Janardhana Amaranath B.J. thanked the faculty members along with the postgraduate students and Mr. Prabjot GSK pharmaceuticals for their unflinching support.
