27 Mar 2024
The Department of Biotechnology at Rama University's Faculty of Engineering organized an enlightening academic tour to the Fragrance and Flavor Development Center (FFDC) in Kannauj on March 22, 2024. This tour aimed to enhance the skills and entrepreneurship development of students while exposing them to the global scope and advancements in fragrance and flavor industries.
During this educational visit, students specializing in B.Tech and B.Sc.(Hons.) Biotechnology gained valuable insights into the functioning and fundamental principles of analytical instruments crucial for perfumery quality control, such as Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy. They also had the opportunity to explore various units at FFDC, including steam distillation, hydrogenation, and fractionation, witnessing firsthand the extraction processes for aroma compounds.
In addition to learning about perfumery techniques, students delved into the agritech aspect, discovering the cultivation methods for different aromatic and medicinal crops. Furthermore, they visited the plant tissue culture laboratory, where they grasped the pivotal role of biotechnology in enhancing plant aromaticity through plant biotechnology techniques.
This academic tour not only broadened the students' understanding of fragrance and flavor development but also highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of biotechnology in revolutionizing various industries, from perfumery to agriculture.
