School Adoption Program Promoting Oral Health Awareness Among Children

The Department of Public Health Dentistry has taken up an initiative to adopt a school for providing free Oral healthcare and improving the social well-being of the school children. This is being done:

To create awareness among school children about oral health problems, their prevention and treatment and improve the oral health status of school children.

To make them aware about the importance of healthy teeth and healthy mouth.

To conduct regular free oral health check-up drives.
-
To provide preventive measures for the prevention of oral health diseases at an early age.

To provide basic oral health treatment procedures at the school, and refer the children needing treatment to Rama Dental College and Hospital for advanced treatments free of cost.

To encourage health promoting behaviors among school children and teachers.
Outcomes
Rama Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre, Department of Public Health Dentistry Mandhana, Kanpur has adopted a school ‘Lakshmi Vidya Mandir, Rajeev Nagar, Vinayakpur, Kanpur on 13th February, 2026 with enthusiastic participation from Faculty and Post graduate students under the guidance of the Principal- Dr. Asheesh Sawhny, and Head of Department - Dr. Nidhi Shukla.
The Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry inaugurated the school adoption program. A Team of Dental Professionals visited the school, educating the school children about the basic oral hygiene practices and preventive care, followed by a free dental screening camp. The correct method of toothbrushing technique was demonstrated to the children along with distribution of free toothpaste samples. The Program received positive response in improving awareness.
Almost 121 school children were examined for oral healthcare problems. Children requiring treatment were referred to Rama Dental College, Hospital & Research Centre for treatment.
