Short-Term Programme on Seed Production and Certification Begins at Rama University, Kanpur

30-Hour Industry-Oriented Programme Focuses on Modern Seed Production, Certification Practices and Skill Development for Future Seed Professionals.
The 30-hour Short-Term Course on “Seed Production & Certification” commenced today at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Allied Industries (FASAI), Rama University, Kanpur, with the objective of developing industry-oriented knowledge and practical competencies among students, agricultural professionals, and other participants.
The programme began with the Welcome address by Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Dean, FASAI followed by the Expert session of Dr. J.P.Gupta, Associate Professor, Seed Science & Technology, FASAI where he emphasised on the strategic importance of quality seed as the foundation of successful crop production. The opening sessions highlighted how genetic purity, physical purity, viability, vigour, seed health, proper processing, and timely availability of seed directly influence crop productivity and the adoption of improved varieties.
A key focus of the programme is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the evolving requirements of the seed industry. Participants are being oriented towards the professional competencies expected in modern seed enterprises, including scientific seed production, quality assessment, seed testing, processing, storage, packaging and labelling, field inspection, certification procedures, quality assurance, and compliance with seed legislation.
The programme also addresses the growing demand for skilled professionals capable of maintaining seed quality standards from production to market. Through technical lectures, laboratory demonstrations, field exposure, and hands-on training, participants will gain practical understanding of the procedures followed in professional seed production and quality management.
Special emphasis is being given to cereals, pulses, and oilseeds, enabling participants to understand crop-specific seed production practices and quality requirements. The course is designed to prepare participants for emerging opportunities in seed companies, seed testing laboratories, certification agencies, research organizations, agricultural extension services, and quality assurance divisions.
The commencement of the course marks an important step towards developing job-ready and technically competent seed professionals who can contribute effectively to the production and supply of quality seed and meet the changing needs of the agricultural and seed industry.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of more than 35 participants and provided a strong foundation for the upcoming technical and practical sessions of the course.
