12 May 2020
The Faculty of Nursing invites application for the Short Term Course on Suturing Technique. Here are a few things you must know to understand the relevance and admission-related details:
Course Overview
Wounds are more common in the human body. Wounds or any surgical procedure may lead to tear or cut in the tissues, muscles or in skin. Suture or Sew is a word with the meaning to stitch. It is a medical procedure that is used to hold the body tissues together after a tear in the skin or tissues.
Many factors affect the healing process that can be controlled by the surgical team in the operating room. Organisms within a patient’s own body most commonly cause infection during postoperatively, but microorganisms carried by medical personnel also pose a threat.
It is important to control the entry of microorganisms through the cut or injury. To prevent this type of entry, need to suture the wound. Sutures are used to close wounds. Sutures were used by both the Egyptians and Syrians as far back as 2000 B.C. The wide materials used for sutures in early age were silk, linen, horsehair, animal tendons and metal wires etc. Some of these are still used in these days too.
