World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated annually from August 1st to 7th, is crucial for raising awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers, and promoting supportive environments for breastfeeding globally. It highlights the importance of breastfeeding as a cornerstone of child survival, nutrition, and development, while also addressing challenges mothers face in initiating and sustaining breastfeeding. The Department of O. B.G & Child Health Nursing of Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, proudly inaugurated World Breastfeeding Week 2025 on August 1st, under the theme: “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
The event marked the commencement of a week-long celebration dedicated to spreading awareness about the significance of breastfeeding in promoting maternal and child health.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Indrajeet Gupta, Dean FET & Academics & Planning, Prof. Dr. Vaishali Dingra, Dean IQAC, Prof. Dr. Jasmi Johnson, Principal, Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Anteeta Yadav, Dean Agriculture, Prof. Dr. N.K. Sahu Dean Pharmacy and Dr. Minu S.R., Vice Principal, along with distinguished HOD’s, faculty members, staff, and students. The program began with a warm welcome and traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment, followed by an inaugural address that emphasized the critical role of breastfeeding in ensuring the well-being of both mother and child.
To foster student engagement and creative advocacy, a poster-making competition was held as a central feature of the day. Students from various academic levels participated enthusiastically, presenting visually impactful and content-rich posters aligned with the week’s theme. The posters addressed vital topics such as the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, the importance of community support, and debunking common myths and misconceptions.
Entries were evaluated based on creativity, thematic relevance, clarity of message, and overall presentation. Winners were recognized with certificates and tokens of appreciation, presented by the faculty in acknowledgment of their commendable efforts.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Head of the Department, appreciating the contributions of all participants, faculty members, organizing committee, and support staff. The successful inauguration set a motivating and positive tone for the series of activities planned for the week, including role plays, model presentations, extension outreach activities, and culminating in an expert lecture.
