Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights, Patents, Design Filing and Innovation Awareness

Rama University, Kanpur successfully organized a workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Patents and Design Filing” on 09 December 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, at Classroom B1, RIPH Building. The event was jointly conducted by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Rama Institute of Pharmacy, in association with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Government of India, Nagpur, under the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM).
The session was led by Dr. Bharat N. Suryawanshi, Assistant Controller of Patents & Designs, RGNIIPM, Nagpur, whose expertise in biotechnology and Intellectual Property offered valuable insights into the subject. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Kanta Sahoo, Professor & Dean. Faculty coordinators included Dr. M. N. Javed, Dr. Tarkeshwar Dubey, Dr. Madhusmita Sahu, and Mr. Arpit Gupta. The event was moderated by Ms. Juveriya Bilal, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of Intellectual Property.
The workshop covered major aspects of IPR, including definitions, classifications, patentability criteria, design registration steps, common errors in drafting, and real-life examples of protected innovations. The session highlighted the importance of IPR in academic research and industry innovation.
A remarkable 1,724 participants registered for the event, comprising undergraduate students (27.8%), postgraduate students (19.5%), PhD scholars (6.8%), and faculty members (41%). This diverse participation reflected increasing interest in IPR across academic levels.
An interactive Q&A session allowed attendees to clarify doubts related to patent and design filing. Feedback was collected, and participants were informed about certificate issuance upon form submission.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the resource person, organizers, faculty coordinators, and all participants. The workshop successfully enhanced awareness about Intellectual Property Rights and encouraged the culture of innovation and protection in the academic community.
