On April 22, 2024, Rama University's VC Building Conference Hall buzzed with enthusiasm as it hosted a thought-provoking event in commemoration of World Earth Day. With the theme "Planet vs. Plastics," the occasion aimed to spotlight environmental issues, particularly the pervasive threat of plastic pollution, and inspire proactive measures toward a more sustainable future.
The event, spearheaded by Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Dean of FASAI, R.U., featured an expert panel including Mr. Devendra Pareek, Trustee of Kanpur Parivartan Forum, and moderated by Dr. Vinay J. Silas, Assistant Professor at FASAI, R.U.
Mr. Pareek, renowned for his environmental advocacy, delivered an illuminating guest lecture. He shed light on the dire consequences of plastic pollution on ecosystems, marine life, and human health, underlining the urgent need for collective action. Practical alternatives and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics were emphasized as pivotal strategies.
Attendees, predominantly students of FASAI, engaged fervently in the Q&A session, demonstrating a deep commitment to understanding their role in combatting plastic pollution. Mr. Pareek was honoured with a live plant, Shawl, and Memento in recognition of his impactful contribution.
Following the lecture, the event transitioned into a hands-on plantation campaign, with participants enthusiastically planting native tree saplings under expert guidance. This initiative not only beautified the surroundings but also served as a tangible step toward mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity.
The success of the World Earth Day celebration underscored the power of collective action and individual responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. It served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing commitment needed to protect and nurture our planet for future generations.
As the event concluded, attendees departed with a renewed sense of purpose, empowered to effect positive change in their communities and beyond. The resounding message echoed: together, we can build a future where the choice between a thriving planet and a sea of plastic is clear.
