FASAI Promotes Nutritional Security, Home Food Production, and Responsible Food Consumption
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Allied Industries (FASAI), Rama University, Kanpur, celebrated World Food Day on 16 October 2026 with the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” The programme emphasized the message “Grow Your Own Food”, encouraging students to understand the value of cultivating food and adopting sustainable practices to ensure a healthier and more food-secure future. The celebration aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of nutritional security, quality food production, sustainable agricultural practices, and the responsible utilization of food resources.
The celebration focused on developing awareness and practical skills related to the production of quality food while highlighting the importance of maintaining nutritional security. Students were encouraged to recognize that ensuring food security requires not only the production of sufficient and nutritious food but also its judicious consumption and effective management. A special emphasis was placed on minimizing food wastage by taking only the quantity of food required and respecting the resources, labour, and efforts involved in food production.
As part of the event, students of FASAI took a pledge to avoid food wastage and consume food according to their needs. The pledge highlighted the importance of responsible eating habits, mindful consumption, and individual responsibility in reducing food loss and wastage.
The programme also included the transplantation of saplings, providing students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to plant establishment and understand the basic principles of growing their own food. The celebration effectively highlighted that nutritional security depends on producing quality food, promoting sustainable cultivation practices, and ensuring that food is consumed responsibly without unnecessary wastage. By combining awareness with practical plantation activity and a pledge for responsible food consumption, FASAI encouraged students to become responsible citizens and future agricultural professionals committed to sustainable food systems.
The World Food Day celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to the principles of growing our own food, nourishing our communities, and minimizing food wastage. The initiative reflected FASAI's commitment to promoting agricultural awareness, environmental responsibility, and nutritional security among students in alignment with the spirit of World Food Day 2026.
