4th National Pharmacovigilance Week: Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety

Kanpur, U.P., September 23, 2024 — The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Rama Institute of Pharmacy from Rama University, Kanpur, organized a significant awareness campaign as part of the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week. The event, held at Prathmik Vidhyalaya, Kukradev, Mandhana, and Ushadeep Senior Higher Secondary School, focused on cultivating a culture of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting to ensure patient safety. The awareness campaign sought to educate school students on the role of ADRs in maintaining health and safety.
Educating the Next Generation for Safer Medication Practices
Event Objective
The primary aim of this campaign was to help students understand the importance of Adverse Drug Reactions and the critical role of reporting them. The event highlighted how students and their families could contribute to improving drug safety by recognizing and reporting ADRs early.
The event included informative sessions, interactive presentations, and fun learning activities, tailored to engage young minds on the topic of drug safety.
Event Highlights
- Introduction to ADRs
Mr. Neeraj Jain, Associate Professor, initiated the event with an insightful session on what ADRs are, distinguishing them from side effects, and emphasizing their early identification. This foundational talk laid the groundwork for understanding ADRs in everyday life.
- Interactive Presentation
the students of B.Pharm 2nd year prepared a visual poster illustrating real-life example of ADRs and their potential health impact. Infographics and skits were incorporated to help the young students grasp the importance of ADR awareness.
- Importance of ADR Reporting
Faculty members, including Mr. Shubham Sharma, Dr. Rajesh Nath, and Ms. Prachi Pandey, explained various platforms available for ADR reporting. They highlighted how reporting ADRs contributes to ensuring community safety and encouraged students to discuss this with their families.
- Quiz Competition
a short, engaging quiz was organized to assess the students' understanding of ADRs. This activity helped reinforce the knowledge shared during the event, making the learning process enjoyable and interactive.
- Distribution of School Kits and Mementos
the event concluded with a distribution of school kits and refreshments for the students. Mrs. Richa Awasthi, Principal of Prathmik Vidhyalaya, and Mrs. Usha Singh and Mrs. Amrita, the Director and Principal of Ushadeep Senior Higher Secondary School, were presented with mementos by Mr. Neeraj Jain in appreciation of their support.
- Q&A Session
an interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to voice their queries about ADRs, medications, and general health safety. Faculty members addressed their concerns, deepening their understanding of ADRs.
Positive Feedback and Acknowledgment
The students showed remarkable enthusiasm during the event, with many sharing that this was their first exposure to the concept of ADRs. The campaign left them feeling informed about the importance of drug safety and reporting unusual reactions. School staff and administration also appreciated the initiative, acknowledging the need for more health-related educational programs in schools.
