Expert Lecture on closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2024, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, hosted an expert lecture aimed at promoting breastfeeding and overcoming the cultural and social barriers associated with it. Held on August 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the event was attended by students from the B.Sc. Nursing, ANM, and GNM programs, filling the Seminar Hall with eager participants.
Inauguration by Distinguished Guests
The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony graced by several distinguished guests, including:
- Prof. Dr. Yashwant K. Rao, President of the Kanpur Paediatric Association, GSVM, Kanpur
- Prof. Dr. V.K. Tandon, Professor of Paediatrics at Rama Hospital & Research Centre
- Prof. Dr. Raj Tilak, Diplomate of Environment and Child Health at Rama Hospital & Research Centre
- Prof. Dr. Jasmi Manu, Principal/Dean of the Faculty of Nursing
- Heads of Departments of the Faculty of Nursing
Insightful Lectures and Discussions
The lecture series began with an address by Prof. Vipin from the Department of Paediatric Nursing, who set the tone for the session.
Prof. Dr. Yashwant K. Rao provided insights into various breastfeeding techniques and emphasized the support available to mothers during the exclusive breastfeeding period.
Prof. Dr. V.K. Tandon addressed the cultural and social barriers that impede breastfeeding, offering strategies to overcome these challenges and normalize breastfeeding practices in different communities.
Prof. Dr. Raj Tilak focused on behavioural modifications and effective breastfeeding techniques, highlighting the importance of changing knowledge, attitudes, and practices to improve breastfeeding success rates.
Positive Feedback and Conclusion
The event attracted a total of 230 students, who actively participated in the discussions and expressed positive feedback about the lecture series. The session concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where Prof. Dr. V.K. Tandon and Prof. Dr. Raj Tilak were honoured with living plants as tokens of appreciation for their valuable contributions.
The event ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks and the singing of the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired and equipped to support breastfeeding practices in their future careers
