Eye Donation Awareness Rally Sheds Light on a Noble Cause
12 Sep 2023
Under the direction of their renowned Principal, Dr. Brijendra Nigam, the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, Department of Optometry at Rama University, Kanpur, joined together to organise an Eye Donation Awareness Rally. This rally, which stretched from Kanpur's G.S.V.M. Medical College to Motijheel Park, was organised in cooperation with the department of ophthalmology with the goal of educating the general public about the value of eye donation.
As part of the annual National Eye Donation Fortnight celebrations, which run from August 25 to September 9th, this remarkable project was held. The fortnight is used as a vehicle to promote eye donation and to persuade people to donate their eyes in the event of their mortality.
Eye donation is a noble act, and the procedure is conducted with utmost care and respect. Trained medical professionals perform the process delicately, ensuring that the donor's body remains unaltered. This allows for an open-casket funeral if the family desires.
To ensure the success of this event, students from the Department of Optometry, including both Bachelor and Diploma students, joined hands with Postgraduate students from the Department of Ophthalmology on September 9, 2023. They were accompanied by dedicated teaching faculty members from the Optometry Department, Mr. Satyendra Singh Sachan, Ms. Meghna Verma, and Dr. Ruchika Agarwal, along with Dr. Harnoor and Dr. Shivangi from the Department of Ophthalmology. The participants represented G.S.V.M. Medical College and actively engaged in distributing pamphlets and explaining the significance of the eye donation program.
This commendable effort by Rama University showcases its commitment to raising awareness on critical healthcare issues and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the community.
