Faculty of Juridical Sciences Organizes Free Legal Awareness Camp on POCSO

Kanpur, August 23, 2024 — The Faculty of Juridical Sciences (FJS) at Rama University, Kanpur, held a Free Legal Awareness Camp on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, at RMS Uma Devi Vidyalaya, Trilokpur, Bilhaur, Kanpur Nagar. The initiative, led by the Free-Legal Aid Centre of FJS under the supervision of Dr. Praveen Kumar Mall (Dean, FJS), aimed at educating children about their rights and empowering them to combat sexual offences.
Objectives of the Awareness Camp
The camp focused on two primary objectives:
- Creating Awareness on Good Touch and Bad Touch: Helping students distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touch.
- Sensitization on the POCSO Act: Educating students about their rights and liabilities under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Activity Overview
The camp featured an open discussion, providing students a platform to freely discuss ways to distinguish between good touch and bad touch. They were encouraged to trust their parents or guardians and report any unsettling experiences. The camp also elaborated on the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012, and the steps to be followed if any of these offences are committed.
Achievements of the Camp
The camp was a notable success, with active participation from the students. They demonstrated an understanding of the differences between good and bad touch and learned about the various provisions of the POCSO Act and the reporting mechanisms available to them in case of violations.
