Law Students Gain Insight on Prison Management during Educational Visit to Model Jail, Lucknow

On September 20, 2024, the Faculty of Juridical Sciences (FJS) at Rama University organized a jail visit to Model Jail in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The visit, led by Dr. Praveen Kr. Mall, Dean of FJS, provided 28 law students with a hands-on learning experience regarding prison management and operations. Accompanied by faculty members, including Dr. Priya Jai, the Faculty-in-Charge, the students observed prison protocols, interacted with inmates, and learned about various aspects of prison life.
The group departed from Rama University’s Kanpur campus at 9:30 AM and arrived at the jail by 12:30 PM. After completing formalities, the team was welcomed by the Jail Superintendent and participated in an interactive session about prison structure, historical perspectives, and the myths surrounding jails and their administration.
Students were divided into male and female groups to visit the respective prison wings. In the women's section, they explored facilities like a beauty parlour, classrooms, and prayer rooms, noting the cleanliness and upkeep of the area. The male section also showcased various recreational and co-curricular facilities, including spaces for music, painting, and other cultural activities aimed at fostering mental and physical well-being.
The visit was an enriching experience, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of prison management and the conditions faced by inmates.
