The Faculty of Nursing at Rama University recently organized a highly successful 2-day Nutrition Practical Demonstration aimed at enriching the practical knowledge of BSc Nursing students in understanding the basic principles of Nutrition and dietetics. The event took place on the 13th and 19th of July 2023, and it catered to the 2nd-semester batch of the academic year 2022-2023.
The practical demonstration, which consisted of both hands-on activities in the Nutrition lab and presentations in the Seminar Hall, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 12 groups of students.
On the first day, the initial 6 groups conducted various demonstrations, including the preparation of weaning diets, diets for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children. They also focused on diets for school-going children, sedentary workers, post-operative clients, and individuals with specific health conditions like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, renal failure, low potassium levels, and hepatic disorders.
The second day saw the remaining 6 groups in action, presenting clear and liquid diets, diets for constipation and diarrhea, celiac disease, gluten-free options, diets for pregnant and lactating mothers, calcium-rich diets, iron-rich diets for addressing anemia, and diets suitable for fever.
Each group not only showcased their culinary skills but also displayed models related to the therapeutic diets for patients with various medical conditions. The live demonstrations and presentations provided valuable insights into different methods and cookery rules for preparing meals tailored to specific health needs.
The practical evaluation sessions were attended by all faculty members and at the conclusion of each day, the Principal and respective Heads of Departments provided overall evaluations. The commitment and dedication of the students were highly appreciated and the faculty members expressed satisfaction with the students' performances.
Mr. Deepak Suwalka, the subject in charge, give a heartfelt vote of thanks to all the faculties and students for their enthusiastic and creative participation, making the practical session a grand success. He emphasized that such hands-on experiences play a vital role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, nurturing students' skills to be highly competent healthcare professionals.
