One Week Faculty Development Program on Intellectual Property Rights and Wealth Creation

One-week faculty development programme on "Intellectual Property Rights and Wealth Creation" was organized by the Institutions Innovation Council in association with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Allied Industries from April 24 to April 28, 2023.
The faculty development programme aimed to educate young people about intellectual property rights (IPR) and how they play a part in defending both tangible and intangible property. In order to achieve faster economic growth in a market-driven economy, IPR protection is essential for establishing a little technological edge.
About the program
On 24 april, 2023 The event witnessed a gathering of esteemed dignitaries and guests, including Dr. Prateek Singh and Dr. Pranav Singh, Directors of Rama University, Dr. Hari Om Sharan, President of Institution Innovation Council, Mr. R.K. Yadav, Controller of Examinations, and the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. B.K SARKAR, Founder of GEH Research and ADBIGA Innovation. The ceremony was graced by Dr. C.S. Raghuvanshi, Innovation Ambassador of Institution Innovation Council, Rama University, Mandhana, Kanpur, and Dr. Aneeta Yadav, Dean of FASAI & Convener of FDP, along with Deans, HoD's, and faculty members from various faculties of Rama University. The stage was set for an engaging and informative program that aimed to empower the faculty members with the knowledge and skills to harness the potential of intellectual property rights for wealth creation.
On April 25, 2023, Dr. C S Raghuvanshi, the Professor, and Head of Computer Science & Engineering department at Rama University, spoke on “Indication which identifies a good as originating in the territory of a Member, or a region or locality in that territory, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin” (TRIPS). An indication of a place where a given product was originally produced, and which has become the common name of that product. In the absence of any international agreement, appreciation in accordance with national law and perception by the local consumers, geographical indication may be distinctive or generic.
On April 26, 2023, the session was commenced by the Chief Guest Dr. H. S. Chawla, Consultant, IPR in Agriculture (Plant Variety Registration), Ex - CEO, Nodal Officer, Intellectual Property Management Centre, Pantnagar, Ex - Dean & Division Head, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Pantnagar. He spoke about providing property rights through patents, copyrights, and trademarks. Holders of intellectual property rights have a monopoly on the usage of property or items for a specified time period.
On April 27, Dr. Surbhit Shukla elaborated on the types of intellectual property protection, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks, and their importance in protecting inventions and creativity. On April 28, the valedictory session was held, and Mr. Ravi Pandey, Research Establishment Officer, IP & TECH Transfer IIT Kanpur, discussed the role of IPR in increasing innovation and technology diffusion. Ms. Sonali Nigam, Assistant Manager at the Technology Transfer Office of IIT Kanpur, talked about how IP is a powerful business tool to gain position on the market and exclusivity over a new product or process.
The faculty and the students actively listened to the knowledge shared by the key speakers and found it to be informative and enlightening. The program was a huge success in enhancing the understanding of IPR among the participants and encouraging them to contribute to wealth creation through innovation and creativity.
In conclusion, the One Week faculty development program on Intellectual Property Rights and Wealth Creation was a great success. It provided valuable insights and knowledge to the participants on the importance of intellectual property protection and its role in wealth creation.
