A brief report of the “Orientation Program”
The Orientation Program for the Odd Semester 2025-26 was successfully organized by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Rama University, Kanpur.
The primary objective of the program was to welcome students to the new academic session, provide them with an overview of the curriculum, and motivate them to excel in academics, research, and co-curricular activities.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Indrajeet Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, and Dean Academics, who warmly greeted students from B.Tech, BCA, and MCA programs. In his address, he emphasized the importance of professional discipline, regularity, and ethical conduct and motivated students to actively participate in departmental events and academic activities.
This was followed by a detailed presentation by Dr. Abhay Shukla, Head of the Department (CSE), who provided an overview of the curriculum, highlighting core Computer Science subjects, skill-based electives, and the significance of laboratory work and project-based learning.
Dr. Neeraj, Associate Dean Academics, further motivated the students by explaining the NPTEL courses, guiding them on registration procedures, and emphasizing the career benefits of these certification programs. Similarly, Dr. Neha Garg addressed the students on Eduskills courses, highlighting their industry relevance, certification benefits, and their role in improving placement opportunities.
The faculty members presented a semester-wise syllabus overview, covering key subjects such as Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, Computer Organisation, and Artificial Intelligence. They also discussed industry-oriented electives including Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, and Mobile Application Development. The importance of laboratory work and project-based learning was reiterated, as these are essential for developing problem-solving and coding skills. Faculty members also emphasized the industrial relevance of these subjects, aligning them with IT industry requirements and placement opportunities.
An interactive career guidance session was conducted, where students were advised to:
- Focus on competitive programming and participate in hackathons to enhance coding efficiency.
- Enroll in NPTEL, Eduskills, and other industry-certified courses for upskilling.
- Engage in research projects, paper publications, and patent filing under faculty mentorship.
The significance of internships and industrial training was highlighted, with alumni success stories shared to inspire students. They were also encouraged to prepare for campus placements, GATE examinations, and higher studies abroad.
The Department introduced students to 10 active departmental clubs aimed at fostering technical, innovative, and leadership skills. Notable among these are the IEEE Student Rama Branch, Tech Fusion Club, Google Developer Group (GDG), and Code Kabila, which focus on advanced learning, research, and collaborative project development. Students were encouraged to join these clubs to participate in national and international competitions, contribute to open-source projects, and build professional networks with industry experts.
The Innovation Cell and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) urged students to pitch innovative ideas, participate in hackathons, and explore startup opportunities under faculty guidance. Students were also introduced to the "Rama Startup and Innovators Club", a dedicated club that focuses on nurturing entrepreneurial skills, innovative thinking, and startup development among students. Additionally, students were motivated to take part in university-level sports, cultural fests, and flagship technical events, which contribute to teamwork, creativity, and overall personality development.
The program concluded with an inspiring address by Dr. Abhay Shukla, Head of the Department (CSE), who emphasized the importance of continuous learning, time management, and teamwork. He encouraged students to strive for excellence not only in academics but also in developing leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
The orientation ended with an interactive Q&A session, where students clarified doubts regarding academic procedures, project opportunities, and placement prospects. The program received highly positive feedback, with students expressing enthusiasm and determination to begin the new semester with renewed motivation.
