Rama Dental College Organizes Anti-Ragging Seminar to Educate New Students

On October 26, 2024, Rama Dental College, located in Mandhana, Kanpur, held an Anti-Ragging Seminar aimed at educating new Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) students about the harmful impact of ragging and the support measures in place at the institutional and university levels. The seminar took place at the college’s Central Library, with a turnout of 125 participants, including faculty members and first-year BDS students.

- Welcome Address and Introduction of Guest Speaker
Dr. Asheesh Sawhny, the Principal of Rama Dental College, began the event with a welcome address and introduced Dr. Aman Sachdeva, an esteemed member of the Dental Council of India and Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Bhojia Dental College & Hospital in Himachal Pradesh, as the guest speaker for the seminar.
- Presentation on Ragging and Support Systems
Dr. Sachdeva gave an informative presentation covering the different types of ragging, such as physical, emotional, and financial abuse, and highlighted the institutional measures available to help students who experience or witness ragging. He provided students with helpline numbers for the council and social groups and detailed the consequences for engaging in ragging, underscoring the importance of fostering a safe educational environment.
- Booklet Distribution
Booklets outlining the college’s anti-ragging policy and key contact details of the Institutional Anti-Ragging Committee were distributed to all students for easy reference.
- Q&A Session
an engaging Q&A session allowed students to raise concerns and clarify their understanding of the anti-ragging policies, which Dr. Sachdeva addressed in detail.
- Concluding Remarks and Refreshments
the seminar concluded with a vote of thanks to Dr. Sachdeva, followed by refreshments for all attendees, marking the event as an impactful step toward creating a ragging-free campus culture.
