School Health Programme Conducted at Kukradev, Mandhana, Kanpur

Kanpur, UP – The Department of Community Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Rama University, Kanpur, successfully organized a two-day School Health Programme on November 21-22, 2024, at Government Primary School, Kukradev, Mandhana, Kanpur. The event aimed to promote health awareness and identify minor health ailments among primary school students, benefiting approximately 65 children.
Under the guidance of Mr. Aslam Abbas, HOD of Community Health Nursing and in collaboration with Mrs. Richa Awasthi, Principal of Govt. Prathmik Vidyalay, and the initiative included health check-ups, educational sessions, and interactive activities.
Day 1: General Health Check-Up and Health Education
The program commenced with a comprehensive general health assessment, including vital sign monitoring, height and weight measurements, visual acuity checks, and oral health examinations.
Health education sessions covered:
- Personal Hygiene: Importance of handwashing, bathing techniques, and dental care.
- Worm Infestation: Prevention methods, deworming importance, and modes of transmission.
- Environmental Sanitation: Emphasis on maintaining clean surroundings, proper waste disposal, and safe drinking water practices.
Day 2: Role Play and Interactive Education
The second day featured a role play on mobile addiction, vividly depicting its adverse effects, such as reduced physical activity, impaired vision, and social isolation. An interactive discussion encouraged students to adopt healthy screen-time habits.
Additional educational topics included:
- Good Touch-Bad Touch: Lessons on body autonomy, personal safety, and recognizing safe versus unsafe touch.
- Dental Care: Tips on brushing, flossing, healthy eating, and avoiding sugary snacks.
Outcomes and Impact
The program achieved its objectives through increased health awareness, early detection of potential health issues, and fostering positive behavioral changes among students. Key achievements included:
- Enhanced knowledge of hygiene, nutrition, and safety practices.
- Early identification of health concerns for timely intervention.
- Strengthened ties between Rama University and the local community.
