20 Aug 2024
On August 13, 2024, the Faculty of Medical Sciences' Emergency Medicine Department at Rama University organized its sixth hands-on training workshop on Basic Life Support (BLS) at Lecture Theatre No. 2, located within the university’s Medical College. The workshop attracted over 110 participants, including nursing staff, B.Sc. Nursing students, and faculty members, who received critical training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through practical exercises conducted on a human mannequin.
Dr. Manisha Nigam, Head of the Emergency Medicine Department, emphasized the importance of BLS training in India, where an alarming number of fatalities occur daily due to road accidents. She highlighted that timely CPR can save numerous lives, potentially reducing the number of casualties by 50 to 60 each day. The Emergency Medicine Department at Rama Medical College is leading the initiative to train medical and paramedical students, as well as police officers, security personnel, and drivers, in basic life-saving techniques.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural lamp-lighting ceremony led by Dr. (Col) BK Prasad, Principal of the college, and Dr. Brijendra Nigam, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Dr. Pradeep Tondon, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Head of the Orthopedics Department, and Wing Commander (Dr.) Mohammed Muzammil, who served as the event coordinator, provided insights into the BLS methodology. The training sessions were conducted by Dr. Tushar, Dr. Govind, and Dr. Praveen, with Dr. Praveen Sahu anchoring the program.
The workshop not only marked a significant step in enhancing emergency preparedness at Rama Medical College but also underscored the institution's commitment to fostering practical medical skills among its students and staff.
